Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi put their English estate up for $30 million after less than a year trying life as farmers

Ellen and Portia Relocate Again, Leaving Their English Farm Behind

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have done it again. After dreaming of a peaceful life as farmers in England’s picturesque Cotswolds, the couple has moved on—this time abandoning their newly renovated estate after less than a year.

A Fleeting Farming Fantasy

Their agricultural ambitions lasted about as long as a typical British summer: brief, overhyped, and somewhat disappointing. Following Donald Trump’s election, Ellen and Portia drew attention by leaving the United States—the land that made them famous—in search of a rural lifestyle abroad.

The Lavish Cotswolds Estate

In November 2024, they purchased Kitesbridge Farm, a sprawling 43-acre property in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, for roughly $20 million. They hired nearly 70 contractors and completed a massive renovation in under five months—far faster than the original 12-18 month plan. The end result was a 16,600-square-foot estate with six bedrooms, a guest house, a converted barn pub, an indoor heated pool, a home gym, and modern finishes alongside the historic 1700s farmhouse.

Not Quite Country Living

Despite escaping America’s fast pace, Ellen and Portia’s lifestyle remained anything but slow. After living on the estate for about a month, they decided it wasn’t right. The property lacked enough space for Portia’s horses, which they had brought over from California.

Back on the Market—and Bigger

Now, they’ve moved again to a larger, more modern home in the Cotswolds. Meanwhile, Kitesbridge Farm is on the market for an eye-popping $30 million—potentially setting a local record.

Real Estate Over Rural Roots

For most, relocating across the Atlantic to a countryside farm signals a serious lifestyle change—one defined by simplicity, hard work, and solitude. But for Ellen and Portia, it seems like another high-profile real estate flip. They have a history of buying luxury properties, renovating them, and selling at a profit. This recent move fits that pattern perfectly.

A Lifestyle or a Luxury Tour?

Observers note the irony: fleeing America to embrace country living only to leave in months makes it feel more like a costly style statement than a genuine shift. One month of living on the farm hardly qualifies as adopting an agricultural life.

Hollywood Habits Remain

They swapped palm trees for rolling hills, but their habits stayed rooted in Hollywood’s fast-paced luxury. Farming requires dedication, and no amount of imported horses or heated pools can replace that. Their brief sojourn shows they weren’t truly ready to trade celebrity life for farm life.

Flipping Homes, Not Cultivating Land

Ultimately, Ellen and Portia are better suited to flipping high-end homes than cultivating the soil. Their quick moves across continents reflect a preference for glamorous property deals over grounded rural living.
