Influencer faces backlash for giving her child a Disney-inspired name

Disney-Inspired Baby Name Sparks Online Debate

Two Influencers, One Name

The name Bambi recently stirred online debate after two social media influencers chose it for their newborn daughters. Critics quickly mocked the name as unusual—some even calling it a “stripper name.” Both mothers, however, insist the name is meaningful, beautiful, and perfect for their little girls.

Molly-Mae Hague Welcomes Bambi

In January 2023, former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague and boxer Tommy Fury announced the birth of their daughter, Bambi. The couple, who met on reality TV, had eagerly awaited their first child.

Shortly after the birth, Molly-Mae shared a photo of the nursery, featuring soft neutral tones, plush toys, and the name “Bambi” elegantly displayed above the crib.

The name reveal immediately sparked criticism. Commenters labeled it “ridiculous” or questioned naming a child after a cartoon deer. One person even sneered, “Brilliant stripper name.”

Facing Backlash with Grace
Molly-Mae addressed the backlash in a heartfelt YouTube video. She said, “I was brought back down to planet Earth very quickly, seeing how nasty this world can be. It’s unusual and unique… but to me, it’s beautiful.”

Tommy Fury supported the choice fully: “There was only ever one name for our little girl, and I love the name anyway.” To protect her family, the couple disabled comments on the name announcement.

Another Bambi Across the Globe
Around the same time, Australian influencer Indy Clinton, 25, welcomed her daughter, Bambi Valentine. Clinton explained she wanted a name that was unique and unusual. She wasn’t upset when Molly-Mae later chose the same name. “Great minds think alike,” she laughed.

Clinton found inspiration while reading the Bambi storybook to her two-year-old son, Navy. She initially considered “Paloma,” but the moment she saw her daughter, Bambi felt perfect.

Criticism Doesn’t Deter Them
Like Hague, Clinton faced harsh comments online, including the same “stripper name” insult. She responded confidently, “People will criticize anything these days, so at least give them something to talk about.”

Clinton also noted the trend of creative, nature-inspired names. “Bambi fits right in with Rivers, Bears, Forests, Stormis, and Wolfs,” she said, referencing other celebrity baby names.

Proud of Their Choice
Despite criticism, both mothers remain proud of their decision. Neither plans to change her daughter’s name. Clinton said firmly, “That is her name. Nothing is going to change that.”

Fans have shown support as well, flooding social media with comments like:

“How beautiful she is! And what a gorgeous forever name you have gifted her.”

“So cute, love her name!”

A Name Chosen with Love
While Bambi may still raise eyebrows, for these mothers, it represents childhood memories, love, and joy. Molly-Mae and Indy Clinton continue to focus on raising daughters who will know their names were chosen with intention and heart.
