Ex-police officer sacrifices life to save family during heroic beach rescue

Former Georgia Officer D**s Heroically Saving Swimmers
Anderson “Chase” Childers, a former Georgia police officer and pro baseball player, dr*wned Sunday afternoon off Pawleys Island, South Carolina. He courageously jumped into the ocean to rescue swimmers caught in a dangerous rip current.

Brave Rescue Attempt
Childers, 38, and another bystander rushed into the water to help several people struggling against the powerful current, according to the Pawleys Island Police Department. While Childers successfully saved a family of five, the strong current ultimately pulled him under.

“He d**d trying to save others,” the department said in a heartfelt social media tribute.

From Baseball to Policing
Originally from Kennesaw, Georgia, Childers lived in Paulding County and served as a patrol officer with the Cobb County Police Department for over three years. Before his law enforcement career, he was a talented baseball player. He played at North Cobb Christian School and Georgia State University. In 2009, the Baltimore Orioles drafted him, and he played in their minor league system.

The Orioles expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are saddened to learn of Chase’s passing and send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Family Witnessed Tragedy
Tragically, Childers’ heroic efforts unfolded before his wife and three children. Despite his bravery, the ocean’s force proved too strong.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to support Childers’ family has raised over $230,000. The fundraiser honors him as a devoted husband and father whose last moments reflected selflessness and courage.

Honoring a Hero
The fundraiser reads: “In a heroic act, he saved a family of five during a crisis, putting their lives above his own. Tragically, after giving everything, he could not stay above water and made the ultimate sacrifice in front of his wife and children.”

“His bravery, kindness, and love will always be remembered.”
